I have never liked geese. I think it all stemmed from the time as a child when I thought it would be a great idea to feed a hungry flock. I was happily breaking off bread crumbs and throwing them to the geese. Then one of them turned and looked directly at me. I mean full eye contact. I figured this one was extra hungry so squatted down to its level and held out a piece of bread for it to eat. Suddenly this goose went into full Ninja mode. Wings out, head down honking loudly and charging. My squatted position offered little hope for escape. I threw the bread in hopes of a distraction but to no avail. The goose got me and I haven’t been a fan of geese ever since.
Well now we have a goose. Funny how he came to our farm. We have know some like minded folks who we trade animals with from time to time. We agreed to take their lonely single guinea and add it to our flock. When they brought the guinea over they had a goose in the truck too. They were going to process him but since the weather had been too cold they asked if we wanted him instead. Mr. G agreed thinking we would process him in a few days and have a nice free meal. Well as usual, things didn’t go as planned. J3 liked the goose and asked Mr. G to give him a reprieve. “We’ll see” was the answer.
Long story short, the goose stayed. He slept out with the pigs and even slept on top of the pigs in their hut. He is a friendly goose and lets Mr. G pick his him up. I still keep my eye on my him when I’m out in their run area but so far the goose will be staying.
